Interrupted Grid

Eleven Rivington is pleased to present a series of large-scale abstractions by New York painter Jackie Saccoccio. Titled ‘Interrupted Grid’, the exhibition is on view from January 11 to February 9, 2008. This is the artist’s sixth solo exhibition since she began showing ten years ago and her first solo exhibition with Eleven Rivington. Saccoccio is a past recipient of the American Academy in Rome Prize, a John Simon Guggenheim Foundation Grant, an Artists in Giverny Residency, and a Fulbright Foundation Grant.
For this exhibition, Saccoccio will present five chromatically brash large-scale paintings, dominating the walls of the gallery. Within the paintings, formal swollen grids present themselves as characters and signifiers that are corrupted by ancillary, castrated lines and dashes. This interruption of form prods the viewer to focus on the tension between these rifts and the spectrum of abstraction that each embody. The heightened acidic colors further celebrate the spontaneous bobbing between the static and the ephemeral. Unapologetically bold and extroverted – bringing to mind artists such as De Kooning, Krasner and Mitchell – Saccoccio’s new paintings confidently drags abstraction to an open and expansive present.
Jackie Saccoccio, born 1963, lives and works in New York. Educated at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Rhode Island School of Design, she has had solo exhibitions at Black and White Gallery, NY; Michael Neff, Frankfurt; White Columns, NY; and Lauren Wittels, NY. Group shows include Greene Naftali, NY; Barbara Gladstone, NY; and KS Art, NY, among many others.
