For Art Basel OVR: Miami Beach, the gallery presents a meaningful dialogue between two historical figures - Alan Shields and Jack Tworkov - and three contemporary artists - Evan Nesbit, Mariah Robertson, and Brian Rochefort - all represented by Van Doren Waxter. The conversation amongst the gathered works is about surface - and how line, color, shape and texture activate the materiality and appearance of each object presented. Seen together, these works express formal ideas about jostling abstraction and representation; playing with color and texture; activating an object's surface; and also with pushing material processes. Encompassing different mediums - painting, textile, photography, and ceramics - the OVR gives a snapshot of the gallery's rigorous and cross-generational programming.
